Talisker recently released their Wilder Seas whisky, the latest from their collaboration with eco-charity Parley for the Oceans.

This limited edition whisky from the legendary Skye distillery has conservation at its heart. The bottle is made from 100% recycled glass made from biofuel and will come without a carton. Even the label is eco-friendly; the front of the bottle features ceramic details rather than a traditional paper label in a bid to create less packaging, while the small neck tag is made from recycled paper.

All in all these efforts have reduced glass bottle emissions by 82% and total carbon packaging emissions by 77% for this release.

Parley are an environmental organisation who work with a variety of brands and companies to raise awareness for environmental concerns and innovate eco-friendly materials, systems and technology. In particular they are focussed on protecting our oceans and improving ocean health.

Talisker are the perfect whisky brand to work alongside Parley. They take immense pride in their status as an island distillery and a lot is made of the maritime influence on their whisky. Every Talisker label features the phrase ‘Made By The Sea’, a reference to their location as well as the whisky they produce.

The collaboration between Parley and Talisker aims to rewild 100 million square meters of ocean forest, a vital and sadly often overlooked part of Earth’s ecosystem. As such, Talisker have pledged to donate £3 from every bottle sold towards efforts to restore and preserve the world’s oceans.

Talisker previously supported Parley’s research expedition to one of the world’s largest sea kelp forests near the Cape of Good Hope. This endeavour was celebrated with the release of a 44 Year Old that had been finished in special ‘maritime’ casks made from staves that had also made the long journey to South Africa.

As for the whisky, the Wilder Seas release has been finished in French oak cognac casks and is bottled at the unique strength of 48.6% ABV. The nose promises notes of fruit and barley complemented by a maritime brine aroma, before richly sweet notes of fig and sultanas on the palate are tempered by Talisker’s trademark peppery smokiness.

Talisker Wilder Seas is available now with an RRP of £75.
