Macallan have announced the imminent release of their new Colour Collection. This range will explore the connection between two of the brand’s five pillars: Natural Colour and Sherry Seasoning.
The Colour Collection consists of five whiskies - 12, 15, 18, 21 and 30 year old expressions - that have all been matured in casks that were seasoned with sherry from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. The casks used were specifically selected to accentuate the visual element of the whisky, resulting in a series of whiskies where the colour deepens with each expression.
This new collection will be exclusive to global travel retail and marks a return of age statement Macallans to this market.
To celebrate these releases, Macallan will hold a series of special events that include a private viewing of original artworks created by American artist and graphic designer David Carson. These unique pieces offer a visual interpretation of the five whiskies available.
Carson has previously worked with Macallan on the third edition of their Concept series. In addition to the commissioned art pieces, Carson has also contributed packaging designs and artwork for the Colour Collection’s advertising campaign.
Each age statement comes with bespoke packaging evoking the natural colours of the whisky within. There may also be a nod to Macallan’s recent past too; the colour schemes of the three younger variations bare a slight resemblance to the Gold, Amber and Sienna releases of yesteryear.
This packaging has also been crafted with sustainability in mind. The boxes for the younger expressions are made from co-friendly materials and are entirely recyclable, while the presentation boxes for the 21 and 30 year old are crafted using oak from sustainable forests.
In addition to the work with David Carson, Macallan have also launched an AR experience go coincide with the release of the Colour Collection. The interactive experience showcases tasting notes and additional information about each of the whiskies.
Each release is bottled at either 40% or 43% ABV and will be available from The Macallan Global Boutiques in the coming weeks.
